Licensing Patent and Trademark Rights

A license is a legal contract granting a right held within a patent or trademark by the owner to another.  A significant difference between a license and an assignment is that the owner retains the ownership right in the license, whereas it is transferred in an assignment.

Licenses can be granted to a single party or multiple parties, referred to as an exclusive license or a nonexclusive license respectively.  Licenses can be crafted using a variety of creative provisions and can be limited to geography, specific use, as wells as many others.

Wagenknecht IP Law Group represents both licensors and licensees in the licensing of patent and trademark rights.
